Clarence Adoo Events
As soon as we heard about Clarence's horrific accident we asked ourselves 'what can we do to help?' Clarence has worked regularly with the Sinfonietta for the last 10 years and we all wanted to assist in raising money needed for the many items that he'll require when he leaves the Northern General Hospital. The following are the first two events that we are organising: Clarence Week: 18-24th March. A fundraising-events week (sponsored walks, busking, a charity football match etc.) to raise awareness about Clarences' plight and also to promote the fundraising concert in April. On Saturday 6th April 1996, 7.30 pm, at the Bournemouth Winter Gardens there will be a concert promoted by Bournemouth Orchestras with all fees donated to the Clarence Adoo Trust Fund. For further information, ideas and suggestions about both events please contact Roshan Hughes on 01202 777 172. On Saturday June 15 at 7.30pm; at the Salvation Army
Central Hall, Astley Road, Reading (opposite the Hexagon Theatre Reading), Tel: 01734 583 019: Chaconne Brass and the
Salvation Army Choir will be giving a concert in aid of the Clarence Adoo Trust Fund. Walking for ClarenceJo Hensel tells me that the walk she organised on March 3rd in Epping Forest has raised an amazing £10,000+ for the Clarence Adoo Trust Fund - donations are still comming in. Jo can be contacted on 0181-523 5328 or 0973 429959.Karting for Clarence
Go-Karting on Sunday, 10th March 1996, at the: Daytona Raceway 54 Wood Lane. lived up to all expectations. As with all Clarence Events we had a great turn-out. We had 18 teams drawn from the 87 drivers who participated in the event. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make Karting for Clarence such a success. Firstly thanks to John MacDomnic (see photo above) who gave me the names of so many Karting-aficionados to call, and who also put a team together. Thanks also to Chris Pigram, Tim Hayward, Simon Gabriel, Tracey Holloway, ARG Insurance, the MU, Hunterskill, who all organised teams for the Event. Finally thanks to Daytona who discounted their charge for the race so we could raise the
£700 + for the
Clarence Adoo Trust Fund that our Karting for Clarence evening raised.
"+" because we are still waiting for the
£1 penalty payment we charged for each black-flag our hooligan drivers received to come in!!
Barn DanceJohn Young tells me that the Barn Dance he and Jo Graham arranged On Monday 26th February at Cecil Sharp House raised just over £300 for the Clarence Adoo Trust Fund .Clarence has been our No2 trumpet for three and a half years, and an active and treasured member of our education team, so news of his tragic accident came as a terrible shock. For the immediate future we are looking into an administrative position for Clarence, but in the first instance we have to raise money. There have been no shortage of offers of help - Clarence, as everyone knows, is an immensely popular musician. STOP PRESS... Our Valentines Ball on 17th February, 7pm - 12am - the first event to result from our members brain storming - raised over £9500 and donations are still comming in!
