Biography
Richard studied the horn at the Royal Academy of Music with Derek Taylor and Andrew Clark. During this time he appeared as soloist with the RAM String Orchestra in Haydn's Concerto for two horns and Britten's Serenade for tenor, horn and strings. He also has appeared as guest soloist at the Bournemouth International Festival.

Richard joined the Galliard Ensemble wind quintet, in 1993. The ensemble are currently members of BBC Radio 3's New Generation Artists scheme.

Michael Oliver wrote in a Gramophone Magazine review of the Galliard's most recent CD for the Deux Elles label 'pure pleasure... This, in short is wind quintet playing of great distinction... From this admirably recorded disc you also get a very good idea of how enjoyable the Galliard's public concerts must be. Strongly recommended'.

Richard's chamber orchestra experience includes work with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, The Golden Section, Wallace Collection, Emerald Ensemble, Bournemouth Sinfonietta Chamber Ensemble and the Collegiate Wind Ensemble.

Richard's recent solo engagements include performances of Mozart Sinfonia Concertante with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and Strauss Horn Concerto No 1 with Wycombe Sinfonia. Previous engagements include a recital at the Bournemouth International Festival, Strauss Horn Concerto No 1 at the London School of Economics and with the Southampton University Orchestra, Schumann Concertstuck (Principal Horn) with the Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra, Haydn Concerto for Two Horns with the Gli Amici Della Musica Orchestra and the Royal Academy of Music String Orchestra and Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, also with the Royal Academy of Music String Orchestra.

Richard has recorded with the Galliard Ensemble, Wallace Collection, The Golden Section, London Festival Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra (live) and Northern Sinfonia (live).

Richard's show experience includes My One and Only (principal horn), Lion King, Kiss Me Kate, Beauty and the Beast and West Side Story (principal horn).

Education
Richard's schooling took place at Bournemouth Grammar School (1986 - 1992). Richard's graduate studies took place at Royal Academy of Music: BMus (perf), LRAM (1992 - 1996).
