  JESSICA BEESTON  (Viola)» 

Biography
Jessica Beeston, "a stunning viola player" (Michael Tumelty, The Herald, Feb 2008) is a highly regarded soloist and chamber musician. She received a first class Masters degree from the Mozarteum, Salzburg where she studied viola with Thomas Riebl. Jessica was awarded scholarships to study by the Countess of Munster Trust, the Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarship, the Cross Trust and the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund.

Jessica is a guest principal viola of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and regularly plays with Camerata Salzburg. She has also played with the London Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, New London Soloists and Britten Sinfonia. She is a keen chamber musician and performed in the Wigmore Hall with Ensemble Na Mara and has recently become a member of the Nephele Ensemble. She participated in the International Musican's Seminar master classes and the Mendelssohn on Mull chamber music festival.

This year Jessica was a soloist in the ROSL strings competition and in 2006 won the Waddell memorial prize for strings. As a member of Live Music Now with pianist Andrew Jonhston she has performed in venues throughout the country where she has been described as being "a commanding presence in total control of the music" (Butterworth, Paxton, July 2008).

  • Oct 2008: recital in the Deal festival
  • Aug 2008: soloist with the Rose Street Ensemble, Fringe Festival, Edinburgh
  • July 2008: recital in the Paxton music festival
  • May 2008: recital in the Loch Sheil music festival
  • Feb 2008: solo performance of Edward McGuire's Martyr to celebrate his 60th birthday, Glasgow
  • Nov 2006-2008 - Live Music Now! recitals in the UK with Andrew Johnston, including tours to Orkney and Yorkshire
  • Regular recitals in Edinburgh, London and Salzburg
  • July 2003: toured Germany as soloist with te National Youth String Orchestra of Scotland
  • March 2002: Concerto soloist with the Scottish Sinfonia

  • Regular participant in the Mendelssohn on Mull chamber music festival, with Levon Chillingrian, Andrew Watkinson, Marcia Crayford, Gaby Lester and Alisdair Tait (1999-2007)
  • 2005 - present: regular guest artist with the Edinburgh Quartet
  • Sep 2005: Quintet tour to Shanghai and Beijing
  • Aug 2003: participant in the Cadenza chamber music festival, England with the Dante Quartet

Jessica's schooling took place at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Bachelor of Music Performance (2004) Jessica's graduate studies took place at Salzburg Mozarteum, Masters in Viola Performance under Thomas Riebl (2007)
