Biography Ruth Boswell enjoys a varied musical life as a freelance cellist. Since 1999 Ruth has developed a specialisation playing for contemporary dance and she now collaborates regularly with choreographers, teachers, professional and student dancers at Greenwich Dance Agency, The Place and Rambert School, accompanying contemporary dance classes and workshops. Live performance highlights include 'Sometimes Unspoken' with VTOL at the Royal Festival Hall, 'The Peacemaker' with Moving Visions Dance Co over 3 UK cathedral tours, culminating at St Paul's Cathedral and the Linbury Theatre, Covent Garden. Soloist in 'Slide' with IP Dancers in Resolution! 2008 at the Robin Howard Dance Theatre and also at the Library Theatre, Sheffield in 2008. 'The Breathing Room' with Cambridge Contemporary Dancers at The Mumford Theatre, Cambridge, 2008, for which Ruth composed and recorded the music for solo cello. Ruth has also recently composed music for IRONinc dance company and for a short film 'Soloists' by Anna Bubka and she features in another short film 'The K' by RM dance productions, for which she co-wrote the music, and appears both playing the cello and as a character. In February 2009 Ruth composed and performed the music for an Underground 7 research and development project. Ruth has toured countrywide with the Richard Alston Dance Company education project. Ruth has recorded with Christopher Benstead on his album "Music for dance 4' and Barry Ganberg in 'The Peacemaker". She is currently working on her own album of original compositions inspired by dance. As well as contemporary dance, Ruth also plays for dance improvisation and '5 Rhythms', a spontaneous dance meditation practise. Ruth often uses a Roland RC20 loop station with amplification for her dance work, which enables a dynamic form of live composition by building up layers of sound. Ruth plays a beautiful English cello which was made in 1800. Orchestral Work Ruth's orchestral work also includes City Chamber Ensemble (Princ cellist, 2007-8), Orchestra da Chiesa, Tempus Chamber Orchestra, Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra, Canterbury Philharmonic Orchestra, Phoenix Symphony Ochestra, and London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Chamber Music Ruth performs in the latin 'Duo Alegria' with renowned Colombian musician Elpidio Caicedo, giving a unique take on salsa repertoire. Since 2000, Ruth has also performed with duo partner, pianist Sarah Wilkinson, their most recent recital performance was at St Olaves in the City of London in May 2008.
