Biography
James Burke graduated with a Master's Degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2009, having studied with a scholarship. Whilst at the Guildhall, James was taught by Andrew Webster, Nick Carpenter, Joy Farrall and Barnaby Robson, as well as Jenny McLaren (Eb), and Laurent Ben-Slimane (Bass).
James began playing the clarinet at the age of 7, and had acheived his Grade 8 Distinction by the age of 12. He then went on to play as Principal Clarinet with the London School's Symphony Orchestea and the English School's Orchestra, which included tours to Australia and Canada.
Since graduating, James has been accepted onto the LPO's Foyle's Future First scheme, and is currently in Southbank Sinfonia. His recent professional orchestral work has included playing with the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
James is also a keen chamber musician, and has played at the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican, Sage Gateshead, St Paul's Cathedral, Colston Hall and Royal Albert Hall with various ensembles. Chamber Music festival performances have included the Paxos International Festival in Greece, the Ryedale Festival, and the Perth Festival of the Arts. His wind quintet, the Aris Quintet, have performed live on BBC Radio 3 and have played commissioned works and premieres of pieces for festivals in countries such as Holland and Belgium.
As a soloist, James has also performed live on BBC Radio 3, and has given recitals at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and for various music societies across the country.
