Philip started playing the Piano when he was 4 years old and the Cello when he was 7. He attended Junior Guildhall from 1997 to 2008, studying with Gillian Thoday, which gave him opportunities to play in venues such as St John's Smith Square (London), Snape Maltings and The Barbican. He also performed solo works in St Martins in the Field, the Cardiff Millennium Centre Foyer and to Vladimir Ashkenazy. During his time at Junior Guildhall, Philip won third place in the Lutine Prize.

In 2003 he joined Pro Corda (a prestigious Chamber music course) and the National Youth Strings Academy. During this time he played under the baton of Sir Neville Mariner in 2005 and 2007 and enjoyed tours to San Francisco in 2006 and Italy in 2007 where the ensemble played to Lady Walton.

In 2008 Philip won a scholarship to the Royal Northern College of Music, studying with Hannah Roberts for four years. During this time he was principal Cellist of RNCM orchestras on several occasions, competed in the Barbirolli Cello Prize, and The Sevenoaks Young Musician of the Year. He also gained the opportunity to perform the Debussy Sonata at the 2012 RNCM Chamber Music Festival with his duo partner, Chenfang He.

In 2012 Philip graduated from the RNCM with a 1st and moved to London to continue his education at Master's degree level at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with Richard Lester. Since starting his Master's he has had the opportunities to participate in many GSMD orchestral projects, including working with Valery Gergiev and recording for a documentary film on Benjamin Britten for Sky TV. Philip is passionate about chamber music and has performed in concerts with his Quartet at venues such as Southwark Cathedral.

In 2013 Philip has had the pleasure of participating in orchestral solos master classes with Tim Hugh at LSO St Luke's, and with Robert deMaine and Rebecca Gilliver at the Guildhall. In September Philip attended a summer music course with the Dante Quartet and performed Chopin's Cello Sonata and Schubert's "Death and the Maiden" Quartet in a series of concerts at Tregwynt Mansion in Wales.

Philip has most recently had the opportunity to sit as principal Cellist of the GSMD production of "The Adventures of Pinocchio" by Jonathan Dove. He has also participated in several master classes including one with Gregor Horsch, and played with the London Symphony Orchestra on May 11th at Trafalgar Square. In June Philip completed his masters degree with a distinction in his final recital.
