Biography
I began learning the trumpet at the age of six and the piano a year later, switching to trombone at the age of fourteen. I also began learning drums and percussion at the age of fifteen, and played drums with a number of school bands, including my own rock band, the school big band and various chamber jazz groups. On the trombone, I was a member of Young Sinfonia in Gateshead, although I also played percussion and piano for them when required, and went on tours to Spain and Glasgow. I achieved my DipABRSM on the piano in 2004.
At the University of Cambridge I kept up my multi-instrumental activities, playing trombone in many college orchestras as well as the university's second orchestra and wind ensemble (where I also played percussion). In third year, I also set up my own jazz trio, with me leading from the drumkit, and this gave me a valuable insight into rehearsal arrangement, networking and the general management of musicians. Also, as a trombonist, I was often called upon to play (and find players) at very short notice, using my knowledge of fellow players to help the colleges' orchestral fixers. This was often because there just weren't that many trombonists around!
Through these experiences at university, I have become very interested in artist management and events organisation. Also, I have a great deal of enthusiasm for a wide range of musical genres, and would like therefore to keep my options open for the future.
