Originally from Windsor, James was awarded a full scholarship to study trumpet at the Berkshire Young Musician's Trust at the age of 11, before winning a place in the Junior Department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama during which time he played Soprano Cornet with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
Joseph Haydn Trumpet Concerto 2nd movement, Henry Purcell Sonata for Trumpet 3rd movement, Johann Friedrich Fasch Concerto for trumpet, finale. Big band Jazz solo. James has performed as Principal Trumpet with the Royal Academy of Music Orchestras under such notable conductors as Sir Colin Davies, Christoph Eberle and Vernon Handley whilst other recent performances have included work with the Britten-Pears Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the National Musicians Symphony Orchestra. James has a keen interest in period performance and has performed with the RAM Becket Ensemble, Britten-Pears Baroque Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment with conductors including Sir Richard Eggar, Harry Bicket and Sir Roger Norrington.
