Biography
As an excited five-year old, I was taken to see my first ever ballet, The Nutcracker. The dancers, the costumes and the colours were all mesmerizing, but for me, it was the music that made it so magical. From that moment, I knew that music would be my lifelong passion.
I began piano lessons when I was five and flute lessons aged ten. The flute soon became my principal instrument and I went on to play lead flute in the Wirral Schools' Orchestra. My musical endeavours eventually led me to the University of Oxford where I studied Music at Brasenose College. Whilst at Oxford I was principal flautist with Oxford Millennium Orchestra and Somerville College Orchestra, and also played in a variety of chamber ensembles. I was awarded a choral scholarship with Brasenose College choir and often depped amongst other college choirs. Performing gave me the opportunity to travel throughout Europe, to cities including Paris, Barcelona and Rome.
To further expand my academic appreciation of music, I enrolled at Durham University to read for an MA in Musicology. My studies, supervised by Dr Michael Spitzer, specialised in Beethoven and reception history/literary theory. Other musicological interests, which I enhanced throughout the year, included the Historical Performance Movement, the musical canon and performance practice.
Education Jennifer's schooling took place at Upton Hall school, Wirral.
