Biography
Born in Manchester, Melanie studied saxophone and clarinet with Richard Addison at the Royal Academy of Music, and flute with Derek Honner.
As a soloist and ensemble player playing saxophone, Melanie has made numerous recordings and performed in concerts wordwide.
Orchestral: Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Scottish National Orchestra, Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, Milton Keynes Symphony Orchestra and the orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Chamber: Kokoro ensemble, Mistral Saxophone Quartet, Sounds Positive and Icebreaker.
Melanie is also in demand as a woodwind 'doubler' in London's West End shows and at the National Theatre.
West End: Passion, La Cava, Cats, Grease, Phantom of the Opera, Guys and Dolls, Evita, Porgy and Bess.
National Theatre: South Pacific, Lady in the Dark, The Seagull, The Alchemist, Life of Galileo, Flight.
Other theatre: Just So (Chichester), Take Flight (Chocolate Factory).

Melanie currently teaches at Trinity College of Music (Professor of Saxophone and Associated Doubling skills), where she also takes performance classes and coaches chamber music. She examines and adjudicates for the other London music conservatoires. Melanie is a syllabus selector for the Associated Board and collaborates with many renowned music educators and composers for this purpose. She has also recorded grades 1, 2 and 5 of the current saxophone syllabus, available on general release.
Outreach: Former Live Music Now member and Council for Music in Hospitals, workshop leader in East London primary schools, Create project with Gareth Malone and the City of London Sinfonia, tutor on many instrumental courses.
Melanie's contribution to music was honoured by the Royal Academy of Music when she was awarded an ARAM.
