Biography
Ian was Principal Clarinet of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House from 1960 - 1995.

Ian's solo work includes a tour of Denmark with the Apollo Chamber Orchestra (playing Jim Parker's Clarinet Concerto) and performances of the Copland Sextet (for the Barbican's Inventing America series, the Brahms Clarinet Quintet (with a ROH ensemble) and many performances of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto.

Ian's performance of Jim Parker's Clarinet Concerto was released on CD by Meridian records in 1998

Ian's TV session bookings include Midsomer Murders, Born & Bred, Foyles War, Great Expectations and Food & Drink.

Orchestral Work
Orchestras: Apollo Chamber Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Royal Opera House Orchestra. Sessions: Colin Sheen.

Ian's orchestral work also includes the Royal Opera House Orchestra (principal clarinet, 1960 - 1995). Sadlers Wells Opera, Ballet Rambert, Festival Ballet, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, BBC Revue Orchestra and the BBC Light Music Unit.

Education
Ian was born in London. Ian's schooling took place at Royal Military School of Music (1950 - 1951). Ian's graduate studies took place at Royal Academy of Music (1952 - 1955).

Prizes and Awards

  • John Solomon Wind Prize (1955).
  • Ian was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in 1998.
