Biography
William Hillman began playing the violin at the age of eight via the peripatetic system, continuing his tuition with Edward Davies from Menai Bridge. He then studied his undergraduate in music performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama under the tutelage of Marius Bedeschi.

During his four years as an undergraduate William has won competitions such as the Mostyn Instrumental Prize, RWCMD Cavatina Chamber Music prize, and has twice been a finalist of the RWCMD Concerto Trials. He was recently awarded the Glynne Jones Scholarship.

William led the Rococco String Quartet which have partaken in masterclasses with world renowned string quartets, toured to Switzerland under the tutelage of Peter Esswood, and Italy where they played at William Walton's villa in Ischia.

Having graduated with a distinction in performance, William then studied as a postgraduate in music performance at the RWCMD under the tuition of Lesley Hatfield, with whom he is still studying. William is a much sought-after orchestral and chamber musician, and has performed with Sinfonia Cymru, Welsh National Opera, and is currently on trial for a first violin position in the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

As a chamber musician William has played with the St.David's String Quartet, Bryden String Quartet, Cardiff New Music Collective, The Mavron String Quartet, Ensemble Chameleon Cymru.

Orchestras: BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Brandenburg Sinfonia, Bristol Ensemble, European Union Chamber Orchestra, London Pops Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Cymru. Shows: Shrek. Sessions: Face Music.

William's orchestral work also includes leader of the Welsh Session Orchestra & co-principal of the European Union Chamber Orchestra. He is also the leader of the Hillman Quartet and was a trialist for a first violin position in the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (2007-2009).

William's recitals include

  • Tibor Vagra festival (Sion), involving chamber masterclasses and recitals.
  • Soloist in Walton's Violin Sonata on Ischia as part of Lady Walton's concert series (2007)
  • Regular lunchtime solo recitals at the Wales Millennium Centre

Education
William's graduate studies took place at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, where he obtained a BMus (hons) with a distinction in performance. (2003-2007).
