Elizabeth Hosford (Double Bass, Guitar Bass) Profile

Orchestral bookings (since April 2012)

  • Orchestras: BBC Concert Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, RTE National Symphony Orchestra.
  • Chamber Orchestras: Apollo Chamber Orchestra, Brandenburg Sinfonia, London Chamber Orchestra, New London Sinfonia.

the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, English Festival Opera, BBC Concert Orchestra, D'Oyly Carte, Pimlico Opera, Forest Philharmonic Orchestra, All Souls Orchestra, Kensington Symphony Orchestra, Kent Opera and the Ondine Ensemble.

Since graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Liz has worked as a professional freelancer in major orchestras in the UK such as the CBSO, RPO and several independent London ensembles. Her work takes her all over the UK and abroad. She recently 'co-revamped' the ABRSM syllabus for Double Bass.

A versatile musician, Liz can be found giving solo recitals, school demonstrations, lectures within educational establishments and anything that means that music is brought to a wide range of people. Elizabeth frequently duets with her sister, Fiona Hosford - a harpist, and together they have performed at the Institute of Directors and on the BBC TV show Bargain Hunt, playing the flute!

Liz was a member of the London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (principal from 1994 - 1995). Liz also teaches the piano and has an LGSM Diploma. She also teaches Dalcroze and Kodaly to children aged 3-8 during the week, and teaches Bass at two of the top independent schools in the country.

Liz has been a member of the British Transplant Team since 1993 and has travelled the world competing for her country. Medal count at the moment is 130+, but the main emphasis is educating people about organ donation and signing up on the National Register, which she encourages by giving talks and showcases. She is currently a Trustee of Transplant Sport UK and Transplant Support Network.
