Biography
Miriam is a member of Sinfonia Cymru and has performed with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, British Philharmonic Orchestra, City of London Chamber Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, RNCM Symphony, Chamber and Opera Orchestras. She has also played concertos with the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra and the Four Counties Youth Orchestra.
Miriam is on the extra list for Halle Orchestra.
Miriam was the flautist on the international album Sopor Aeternus and the Ensemble of Shadows (2003).
Miriam Nan Hughes was born and educated in Wrexham and has been successful in both vocal and instrumental competitions from an early age, including 2nd prize winner in the Texaco Young Musician of the Year Competition, winner at Urdd National Eisteddfod and winner of the Main Scholarship Prize for instrumentalists at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
Miriam graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2004 where she studied with Lauren Jellicoe. While at college she took part in masterclasses with many famous flautists including James Galway, William Bennett, Michael Cox and Emily Beynon and in 2004 was also awarded the prestigious Professional Performance Diploma from the RNCM (PPRNCM). She has given many recitals and concerts throughout Wales and the North West and has made many television appearances. She is a keen chamber musician and is a member of the chamber group A Family Affair and the Undici Ensemble based in Manchester.

- the Poulenc Sextet at Peel Hall (2004)
- with Quattro (1998-2001) recitals throughout Wales
- in A Family Affair (2004-present) North Wales International Music Festival 2004 & 2005, Wrexham Arts Festival 2006
- with the Undici Chamber Ensemble
Miriam's solo performances include the
- Mozart Flute Concerto in G with Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra
- Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto with the Four Counties Youth Orchestra
