Biography
A native of Cardiff, Martyn graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in the summer of 2010, having studied the Bass Trombone with Robert Goodhew (BBC National Orchestra of Wales) and bass sackbut within the Department of Historical Performance. While an undergraduate student, Martyn participated in masterclasses given by His Majesty's Sackbuts and Cornetts, Onyx Brass, Roger Harvey (BBC Symphony Orchestra), Lorna McDonald (Bones Apart) and Christian Lindberg. For two consecutive years, he was awarded a prestigious professional placement with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera.
Martyn has worked with many conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Paul Daniel, Bernard Haitink, Owain Arwel Hughes, Gareth Jones and Sir Charles Mackerras. He has experience of repertoire spanning all genres from the pre-baroque to the 21st century.
In September 2010, Martyn commenced postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music in London, having been awarded an RCM Scholarship supported by a John Lewis Partnership Award to undertake a Master's degree in performance. He studies Bass Trombone and Contrabass Trombone with David Stewart.
