Biography
Clare Jefferis won a Foundation Scholarship to attend the Royal College of Music in 2001 and after graduating with 1st class honors stayed on to study a postgraduate, supported by: Solti Foundation award, AHRB Scholarship for postgraduate study, Ian Flemming award (Musicians Benevolent Fund) and John Lewis plc. Award (RCM).
A former member of the National Youth Orchestra, she was awarded a 7 month contract as 2nd flute with the BBC Philharmonic after leaving the RCM in 2006 and has since gone on to freelance with many orchestras in the UK, including the Philharmonia, Northern Sinfonia, Hallé, National Symphony Orchestra, Opera North, Welsh Chamber Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, English National Orchestra, British Philharmonic Orchestra, Lancashire Sinfonietta, Opera Box and London Opera Productions.
She has performed concertos with Imperial College String Orchestra and after her 2006 performance of Malcolm Arnold's Flute Concerto No.2 at the Derngate Theatre, she was awarded a prize in the Malcolm Arnold Concerto Competition. She is also a NYOS Staffa Award prizewinner.
Clare has worked with many leading chamber groups including the New London Chamber Ensemble and has performed at Leeds International Concert Season, Purcell Room,and The Warehouse (for the Park Lane Group). She performed as Principal Flute in the Philharmonia Orchestra's 'Music of Today' series.
She founded the Calderon Duo (flute and Guitar) with Tom McLauchlan and in 2004 the duo were awarded a Live Music Now! Youth Music Fellowship. They have given over 100 recitals and workshops as part of the scheme as well as recitals at the RCM, National Gallery and International Guitar Festival at the Bolivar Hall of the Embassy of Venezuela.
Clare is passionate about teaching and is a tutor at the Flute Kitchen summer school in Harrogate.

Clare's orchestral work also includes BBC Philharmonic (7-month contral, 2nd flute. Extra work including Princ, 2nd, Piccolo and Alto), Philharmonia (Principal and 2nd Flute), Northern Sinfonia (Guest Principal), Opera North (extra work including Piccolo), Halle (extra work), Manchester Camerata (principal flute), British Philharmonic Orchestra (2nd Flute and Piccolo), English National Orchestra (2nd Flute and Piccolo), Welsh Chamber Orchestra (Principal), Opera Box (Principal Flute and Piccolo), London Opera Productions (Principal), Lancashire Sinfonietta (2nd Flute).
Clare's solo and chamber music experience includes:
