Biography

Murray was principal oboe with the Welsh National Opera from 1974 to 2008. He was also principal oboe with the Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet from 1971-74.

Murray has performed most of the principal oboe concerti, including Richard Strauss, Vaughan Williams, Martinu, Mozart, Krommer-Kramar, Guy Woolfenden, Albinoni, Mozart Concertante, and the Salieri Double Concerto. Murray also gives recitals regularly in Wales.

Murray is currently oboe tutor at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where he has been teaching for thirty years. He has also been guest tutor at the Birmingham conservatory. He is experienced in both class and ensemble teaching, masterclasses and adjudication at all levels.

Murray's orchestral work also includes Bath Philharmonia, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Northern Ireland, BBC Philharmonic, Covent Garden Orchestra, Welsh Chamber Orchestra.

Education
Murray's schooling took place at Perth Academy, Gordonstoun School and Universith of Barcelona. Murray's graduate studies took place at the Royal Manchester College of Music.
