Biography
Scottish Oboist Fraser Kelman is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music where he was a Postgraduate Scholar supported by a Douglas and Hilda Simmons Award and by the Sir Arthur Bliss Trust. His postgraduate studies were also supported by generous awards from Sir James Caird's Travelling Scholarship Trust and the Countess of Munster Trust. Prior to studying in London, Fraser completed his secondary education at St Mary's Music School, Edinburgh.
Fraser's teachers have included such noted players as John Anderson, Chris Cowie, Jill Crowther, Jane Marshall, Tess Miller, Celia Nicklin and Christine Pendrill. He has also taken part in masterclasses given by Emanuel Abbühl, Maurice Bourgue, Douglas Boyd, Nicholas Daniel, Jonathan Kelly, François Leleux and Alexei Ogrintchouk.
Fraser has twice been invited to play for the Castleton Festival Opera, a private festival run by Maestro Lorin Maazel at his home in the USA.
Since leaving the RCM, Fraser has enjoyed working with orchestras such as the Philharmonia, with whom he has taken part in several European tours, and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta with whom he played guest principal for several weeks earlier this year.
Fraser is also active as an educator and as a chamber musician with his group the Kandinsky wind trio.

Orchestras: Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Croydon Orchestral Ensemble, English Chamber Orchestra, Esprit Ensemble, London Pops Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Orchestra of St Bartholomew, Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The New Professionals Orchestra.
Fraser's orchestral work also includes Hong Kong Sinfonietta (Guest Principal), Castleton Festival Opera (Principal, 2nd & Cor), St Endellion Festival (Principal & 2nd). Training Orchestras include Britten Pears Orchestra (Principal) and RCM and RAM orchestras and ensembles.
Following audition, Fraser is also on the extra work lists of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera.
Education
Fraser's graduate studies took place at the Royal Academy of Music (2003-2007, BMus Hons, II:i) and the Royal College of Music, London (2007-2009), where he is a scholar supported by Sir Arthur Bliss and Douglas & Hilda Simmonds Awards.
