Hugh studied for both his Undergraduate and Masters (2009) Degrees at The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama under the tutelage of John Stein. During his studies he performed as a member of every ensemble that was available to a violinist and became the principal second violinist for the main Symphony Orchestra. He also received the Philippa Whitelaw Yardley Memorial Award and on two occasions was asked to provide the solo part for violin concertos the Symphony Orchestra was rehearsing to play with guest soloists.
As a violinist and chamber musician Hugh also received tutelage through a number of masterclasses given, among others, by: Leslie Hatfield, James Clark, Philip Heyman, Peter Hanson, The Emperor String Quartet and Hibbiki Strings. And performed as part of the Wales Millennium Centre's Lunch Time Recital Series.
Hugh's other concert work has seen him perform with The National Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Cymru and The Menuhin Competition Orchestra. It has also seen him play for two specially commissioned orchestras for performances with Jon Lord (Deep Purple) and a number of appearances on live television.
