Mary Noden (Oboe, Cor Anglais, Oboe D'amore) Profile

Scottish oboist Mary Noden is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she was a Postgraduate Scholar, generously supported by the Edward Selwyn Memorial Fund and the Dorset Foundation.

Prior to this, Mary graduated, as one of the handful of musicians each year, from the prestigious 'Joint Course' in Manchester. During this time she simultaneously completed two degrees; one in performance at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she studied oboe under Melinda Maxwell, and the other in academic music, at the University of Manchester with Professor David Fallows, playing principal in every ensemble at both institutions. Mary went on to graduate with a Distinction from her Masters in 2010 and was invited to stay as a Junior Fellow in Chamber Music.

Mary has studied with some of the world's leading professional oboists including Gordon Hunt, Richard Simpson, David Walter and Melinda Maxwell. She has also performed in masterclasses with Stephane Rancourt, Nicholas Daniel, Hansjorg Schellenberger, Tony Robson and Ramon Ortega. Mary trained with the London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia and BBC Symphony Orchestra on their side-by-side and education schemes & has worked with the LSO on education projects. She has studied cor anglais with Christine Pendrill, Jane Marshall, Tom Davey and Rachael Pankhurst.

Increasingly in demand as a freelance musician, Mary works with many orchestras and ensembles such as Sinfonia Cymru, Southbank Sinfonia, Senesino Players, Futures Ensemble with members of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Scotland and Syred Sinfonia. This year's highlights include gaining her FRSM diploma, a place on the 'Live Music Now!' scheme with the Heartwood Trio and the principal oboe chair with the Co-Opera Orchestra.
