Biography
Nicholas Ormrod is Sub-Principal Percussionist with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.

Nick has worked with many of the leading UK Contemporary Ensembles, including the Endymion Ensemble, Music Projects/London and Sinfonia 21.

He has also worked with a number of Period Instrument Orchestras , including the Orchestra Baroca Cappella della Piet de Turchini, English Baroque Soloists, London Classical Players and the Hanover Band.

Nick has depped on many of West End Shows including Into the Woods, Miss Saigon, Showboat, The Invisible Man, Aspects of Love and Moby Dick.

His recordings include incidental music for BBC television and radio, jingles for Paul Hart, cast recordings for Wizard of Oz, Carousel, Oliver and Martin Guerre and numerous award winning CD recordings including albums with John Eliot Gardiner and Hyperion - Light Music Classics. He has had appearances in The Russia House and Trevor Nunn's Merchant of Venice.

Nick is Professor of Music History - Percussion at The Royal College of Music and a Deputy percussion teacher at The Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music Junior departments. He is a former visiting teacher at Dartington, Westminster School and Westminster Under School. He has taken masterclass for the Percussive Arts Society and for Sabian Cymbals.

Nicholas's orchestral work also includes BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Guildford Philharmonic, English Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

Nick's Opera and ballet work includes Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Holland Park Opera, Rossini Festival Pessaro, National Opera Studio, Bath & Wessex Opera, Broomhill Opera, D'Oyly Carte, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Ballet Rambert, English National Ballet, Extemporary Dance Theatre, Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, Ludus Dance.

Nick's Theatre work includes shows at the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company (in Stratford, London and on tour), Oliver (West End, 1994 - 1996), The Cheeky Chappie, Carmen Jones and Carousel (West End, 1993).

Education
Nicholas was born in Neath, Glamorgan 1959. Nicholas's schooling took place at Dwr-y-felin Comprehensive School, Neath, Glamorgan (1970 - 1977). Nicholas's graduate studies took place at University of Surrey (1977 - 1980) and National Centre for Orchestral Studies (1980 - 1981).
