Biography
Lucy was born in 1979 and began her musical studies at Wells Cathedral School, where she was awarded a place as a specialist musician at the age of 12. In 1998 she was awarded an entrance scholarship to the Royal Northern College of Music to study with Emma Ferrand, where she graduated with first class honours. She continued her postgraduate studies at the both the RNCM, gaining a distinction in her PGDip performance, and also at the Eastman School of Music, USA, where she won a scholarship to study with Steve Doane.

Since returning from the States, Lucy has been living and working in London. She freelances, often playing with chamber orchestras such as the Northern Sinfonia and London Concertante. Lucy has always had a real love of chamber music, was winner of many of the RNCM chamber music prizes as member of the Smart String Quartet and has performed chamber music with musicians such as Janet Hilton, David Cambell and Sandie Baillie.

Lucy has performed throughout the UK as a member of the Smart String Quartet and Mulhaud Clarinet Trio including concerts for the Rochdale Music Society, Music In The Round, Sheffield, Manchester Chamber Concerts Society, Peterborough Festival and "Death and the Maiden" at Evening Recital during RNCM Schubertfest, as reviewed by National Press.

She has also performed chamber music with Janet Hilton (Brahms Clarinet Quintet), Sandy Baillie (Brahms Sextet), David Campbell (Bliss Clarinet quintet) Anthony Dean Griffin and Warren Jones (On Wenlock Edge) and the Elias String Quartet (Schubert Quintet).

Orchestral Work

Lucy's orchestral work also includes English Pocket Opera, Sinfonia Sefra, Southbank Sinfonia.

Lucy is a member of the ten piece Red Skies String Ensemble playing with folk artists such as Donald Grant, Catriona McKay and Kate Rusby at venues including Theatre in the Round, Sheffield, Cambridge Folk Festival and The Lowry, Salford. The ensemble has also recorded three solo albums.

As solo cellist with the Red Ladder Theatre Company, Lucy worked with the Musical Director to compose/perform soundtrack for play "Dreaming of Bones" with an emphasis on improvisation.

Lucy performed in the Carl Davis Musical "Alice in Wonderland" at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and Birmingham Repertory Theatre with Musical Director Jonathan Gill.

Sessions: recordings for Andy Flannagan, Esther Alexander with Sting' producer Kipper, Survivor Records, Kate Rusby, Catriona Mckay, Donald Grant. and Mike Oldfield's album "Music of the Spheres".

Education
Lucy's schooling took place at Wells Cathedral School, Somerset (1992 -1998). Lucy's graduate studies took place at Royal Northern College of Music: PG(Dip) in Performance with Distinction (2003), and BMus (Hons) 1st Class (2002). Lucy spent 4 months studying with Steve Doane and Rosie Elliott at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, USA (2004).

  • Shirley Catarall Prize for cello (2003)
  • Awarded grant from the Sir John Barbirolli Memorial foundation to purchase a new bow in June 1999
  • Winner of the RNCM Hirsch, Granada and Schubert prizes as member of the Smart String Quartet (1998-2002)
  • Full scholarship to Eastman School of Music USA
  • MBF scholarship for postgraduate study in the USA
