Such was Alex Roberts' performance of Schubert's Shepherd on the Rock described, in the Australian premiere performance of Jurgen Hinz's orchestration. Alex is a dynamic musician, dedicated to sharing the joy of music with his audience and those that he plays with. In 2012, Alex was principal clarinet of Orchestra Vitae, and gave solo performances in Lauderdale House, and in the Knight's Hall, Ljubjlana, the latter as part of the Branimir Slokar Academy. Earlier in 2011, Alex performed the Finzi concerto with Orchesterverein Wiedikon in Zurich, and Krommer and Mozart Wind Serenades throughout Germany as part of the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists.
As a professional orchestral musician, he has played as a member of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Orchestra, as well as playing principal clarinet in Sinfonia Cymru. As a chamber musician, he has performed in the Royal Northern College of Music Chamber Music Festival, City of London Festival, Perth Winter Arts Festival, Australian Festival of Chamber Music, Adelaide Festival and Bangalow Festival.
Alex completed his music studies with Paul Dean at the Queensland Conservatorium in 2006, before undertaking further study with Nicholas Cox and Linda Merrick at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he was the winner of the Gilbert-Fell clarinet prize, in addition to receiving Gyles-Lyth Thomas entrance scholarship. Alex has since been priveliged to take lessons with Francois Benda, Andrew Marriner, Chi-yu Mo, Barnaby Robson and Chen Halevi.
Alex also maintains a busy career as a piano accompanist and choral conductor, working with the South and West London Choirs in this capacity.
