Ileana was appointed principal flute of the BBC Concert Orchestra in 1989. She has played guest principal with many other orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Opera House, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
Ileana frequently gives solo recitals for BBC Radio 2 and 3 and is a member of Jeux and Capricorn, with whom she has toured extensively and recorded for Hyperion.
In 1997 she recorded Peter Maxwell Davies's Flute Concerto for BBC Radio 3.
Ileana was invited to give some of the first concerts in Bosnia, following the war, as a soloist with the London Mozart Players.
Ileana was the winner of the National Federation of Music Societies' Award for young concert artists in 1986, which led to solo recitals throughout the country and her first solo recording of French music with the pianist Julius Drake, titled 'Paris'.
In 1989, Ileana was chosen to appear in the Park Lane Group Young Artists Series.
In 1989 Ileana was invited to adjudicate in the televised stages of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition.
