Rodrick's performance of the Schumann Romance 2 is with the pianist Susie Summers and both performances were recorded at the Royal Academy of Music in 2009.
Biography
Roderick Seed graduated from of the Royal Academy of Music, London in 2009. He won the "Paddy Purcell Award" - an Entrance Scholarship - to study with William Bennett. He has previously studied with Sebastian Bell and Kate Hill.
Roderick has given recitals and concerts in venues such as Snape Maltings (Aldeburgh Festival), St Martin in the Fields, St James's Piccadilly and Westminster Cathedral, as well as concert halls in Hungary, Germany and USA. He has played with London Octave as guest principal flute and has toured Europe as soloist in Malcolm Arnold's Flute Concerto with West Sussex County Orchestra.
In September 2010 Roderick was a First Prize Winner of the Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition (New York) and he will be performing in the Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall.
Roderick is a keen advocate of new music, having worked with many composers whilst still a student. He has premiered many chamber works by young composers and also a concerto by Nimrod Borenstein as a result of winning the solo award at the London Concerto Competition. This summer, he will give the world premiere of a new work for flute and piano by Scottish composer, Eddie McGuire, for the British Flute Society's Convention in Manchester.
Roderick has been Teaching Assistant and recitalist at the William Bennett International Flute Summer School in 2009 and 2010. He has also given masterclasses at the Lizst Academy in Budapest, Hungary and for the Royal Muscat Philharmonic Orchestra in Oman.
Roderick is now an Altus Artist with Altus Flutes Europe. He plays an Altus flute with a headjoint made my Miguel Arista. He has accepted a full scholarship to study at UBC School of Music in Canada with Lorna McGhee and Brenda Fedoruk for a Master's Degree.
Orchestral Work
Roderick's orchestral work includes London Octave (princ), the Royal Academy Symphony Orchestra (princ), Manson Ensemble (contemporary music - flute, alto flute, bass flute and piccolo), Farnham Chamber Orchestra (princ), Chichester Chamber Orchestra (princ), West Sussex County Orchestra (princ), Worthing Symphony Orchestra (guest princ).
Roderick's concerto work include the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto with the Royal Academy Baroque Orchestra; Malcolm Arnolds Flute Concerto with West Sussex County Orchestra on a European Tour of Hungary, Germany and England; Nimrod Borenstein Concerto (world premiere) with Borenstein Festival Orchestra; and JS Bach's Orchestral Suite No 2 with Chichester Chamber Orchestra.
Roderick has given recitals and concerts at venues such as Henry Wood Hall, London; St Martin in the Fields, London; Westminster, Arundel and Chichester Cathedrals; Worthing Assembly Hall; the Royal Academy of Music; St James's Piccadilly, London; Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Aldeburgh Festival; and in the USA through the Madison St Clair Ltd Young Artist programme. Future engagements include a recital at the British Flute Society Convention 2010 in Manchester, premiering a new work by Eddie McGuire, and masterclasses and concerts in the Liszt Ferenc Academy, Budapest.
Education
Roderick's graduate studies took place at Royal Academy of Music (BMus, 2005 - 09).
