Joanna leads a busy and varied life as an orchestral and chamber musician. She is currently principal flute of the Royal Ballet Sinfonia and Scottish Ballet Orchestra.

Previous appointments include sub-principal flute of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, sub-principal flute of the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera and principal second flute with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera.

She has been a guest principal flute with the Orchestra of Opera North, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, BBC Concert Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Ochestra, Northern Ballet Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra among others. She has also trialed for second flute with the London Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra.

As a chamber musician Joanna has appeared at King's Place (Beethoven for Wind series), the Aix-en-Provence festival, Hampstead and Highgate Festival, Presteigne Festival Soloists, Dobris in the Czech republic and Villecroze, France, working with the oboist Maurice Bourgue, with whom she completed further study in Paris in 2004.

Joanna played for the chamber opera ensemble of Music Theatre Wales since 2005, and currently is the flautist of the contemporary music ensemble Uproar.

Joanna is also an ABRSM diploma examiner, and has held teaching posts at the RWCMD, Junior RCS (formerly RSAMD), Glasgow University, and Bath Spa University.
