Virginia Slater (Viola) Profile

Virginia has given solo recitals in the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room and St Martin in the Fields and her solo tours have taken her to Italy, Japan, Finland, France and Ireland. She has performed concertos at the Purcell room and Edinburgh Festival and has appeared as soloist with the Malden Chamber Orchestra playing a selection of Kreisler and Pagannini.

As a chamber musician, Virginia has collaborated with the Takacs Quartet, recording Beethoven quartets and a BBC documentary. She is also a member of the Hilser Trio who have performed at the Adur in Brighton and at Canterbury music festivals.

Virginia Slater was born in 1980. At the age of ten she was awarded scholarships to study at the Royal College of Music and in 1992 the Purcell School of Music. There she studied with Ian Jewel and in 1998 won the Guivier Award in recognition of her musical achievements. In 1999 she was offered a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music and a Foundation Scholarship at the Royal College of Music.

Virginia was manager and founding member of the Covent Garden String Consort, where she managed the musicians for both formal and informal events. She has produced two recordings of their music, and has organised a number of charity concerts and tours of the Republic of Ireland and Wales (1998 - 2005).
