Reviews

Richard Hickox

"Stephen Stirling, who has played principal horn in my orchestra (City of London Sinfonia) since 1990 is one of the most original talents I have experienced. He is a player gifted with the utmost sensitivity and imagination, which is shown through the beautiful way he shapes musical phrases and the extraordinary range of colours he employs."

Guardian

"remarkable expressiveness"

Times

"an outstandingly agile horn soloist"

Observer

"eloquent"

Glasgow Herald

Musical Opinion

"In the Beethoven Horn Sonata we heard a truly noble performance from Stephen Stirling and Diana Ambache. Stirling is a player of manifest authority, and his account of the varied moods unveiled in this glorious work was enthralling in its warmth and marvellous in its technical mastery."

Gramophone (of Brahms Horn Trio with the Dussek Trio)

"Stephen Stirling ... made me think of wood-notes wild, that's to say of the older waldhorn which Brahms intended"

Gramophone (of Vivaldi Double Horn Concerti)

"These concertos are splendidly played"

Classic CD (of Poulenc Elegie)

"The talented Stephen Stirling"
