Biography
Anna Stokes is an established orchestral and chamber musician. She has worked with numerous orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Brandenburg Sinfonia, London Concert Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Arts Symphonic and Bath Philharmonia. She has also toured the UK extensively with singers Russell Watson and Aled Jones and recently played for part of the the King & I UK Tour 2012

She founded the Emanuel Ensemble in 2001 and they have since gone on to perform in recitals at the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, National Gallery, V & A Museum, Conway Hall, Leeds International Festival, Schubert Society of Britain, Villa D'este-Lake Como and numerous UK Concert Societies. Anna recently released her debut CD of solo and chamber works with the Emanuel Ensemble (Flute, Cello & Piano - John Reid-Pianist and Louisa Tuck-Cello) on the Champs Hill Records label (July 2011).

As a soloist, Anna has given performances for the Qatar Foundation in Doha, at the Beethovenhaus in Bonn, the Cheltenham International Festival, for UK concert societies and performed concertos and solo works by Bach, Chaminade, Mozart, Quantz, Reinecke and Rouse. In 2006-2008 she was selected to participate in the Sir James Galway International Masterclass series and in 2007 was awarded a gold Nagahara headjoint for 'Best Performer' by popular vote. Anna has worked with and featured on CD releases with artists including Aled Jones, Isabel 'The Choirgirl', Camilla Kerslake and Beverley Knight. Anna has also performed in the presence of most of the senior members of the Royal Family.

Awards include the Marc Rich Scholarship for Artistic Achievement, Haynes International Flute Competition Prize Winner (2007), LPO 'Future Firsts' (2006-7) Solti Foundation and EMI Sound Foundation. Anna has also given workshops in the UK, Hong Kong and Qatar and recently assisted in the Lisa Friend London Flute Summer Class 2010.

Anna began studying the flute with Athanasios Kalimeris. She was then awarded a scholarship to the Purcell School of Music where she studied with Anna Pope for five years and is a former Principal Flute of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. She was consequently awarded a Foundation Scholarship to the Royal College of Music where she studied flute with Susan Milan and Stewart McLlwham, graduating in 2004 with First Class Honours. She later received private tuition from Celia Chambers. She has also received coaching from an array of flautists including Sir james Galway, Paul Edmund Davies, Susan Thomas, Kenneth Smith, the late Sebastian Bell and composers Edwin Roxburgh, and the late Nicholas Maw and Jindrich Feld. Anna plays on a Brannen-Cooper flute that was awarded to her by the Foundation for Sport and the Arts.

Anna's schooling took place at the Purcell School, scholar studying with Anna Pope (1995 - 2000). Anna's graduate studies took place at the Royal College of Music (2000 - 2004) BMus(Hons), 1st Class Honours. Foundation Scholar studying flute with Susan Milan & piccolo with Stewart McLlwham. Anna also undertook private tuition with Celia Chambers and Paul Edmund-Davies.
