Biography
Ian was principal horn with the Band of the Life Guards for 11 years, where his work included live broadcasts; recordings with Sony Classics and Band Leader Records; performances at the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall; playing on bandstands at Ascot races, Henley Regatta, Royal Windsor Horse Show and the Royal Parks; and military appointments such as The Royal Tournament, Trooping the Colour, The Garter Service at Windsor Castle and Investitures at Buckingham Palace.

Ian is principal horn with Kingston Brass Quintet, resident group for the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames, who give recitals, play for private functions and have performed at the Millennium Dome. Their charity work includes work for Music in Hospitals and performances in disadvantaged and Special Needs School as part of the late Sir Yehudi Menuhin's Live Music Now initiative. Kingston Brass Quintet have also performed Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition and Bernstein West Side Story as part of a nineteen strong brass ensemble conducted by Phillip Ellis.

From 1983 - 1985 Ian played in the Birmingham Schools Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle, and from 1993 - 1997 he played for the Ernest Reed Symphony Orchestra, a teaching orchestra based in London.

Ian's orchestral work also includes National Symphony Orchestra, West Forest Symphony (Principal Horn).

Education
Ian's graduate studies took place at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he studied on a part time basis with Jonathan Lipton from 1995 until 1998. Ian also studied with Denzil Floyd on the Performers Course at the Military School of Music, Kneller Hall (1988 - 1989) and at Guard's School of Music, Pirbright (1985 - 1987).
