Alex completed his undergraduate studies at Trinity College of Music under David Thomas. Following this he was awarded a scholarship to attend the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he graduated in 2014 having studied with Nicholas Daniel, Joseph Sanders, Steven Hudson and Jane Marshall. Whilst at Guildhall, Alex played in many high-profile events including orchestral performances as principal oboe with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra and for a special orchestral masterclass held by the London Symphony Orchestra with Valery Gergiev partnered with sit-ins at the London Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonia.

An active chamber musician, Alex played as part of series of pre-event concerts at the Barbican Hall before the London Symphony Orchestra as part of the Guildhall Artist series. He also is a member of The Aquilon Ensemble, a new wind quintet that are the winners of the 2013 Three Choirs Festival Inter-Conservatoire Woodwind Ensemble Competition. The prize gave them a recital at the 2014 festival in Worcester. In addition to this they have held recitals at St. Martin in the Fields, a concert tour to Portugal and been invited members of the Tunnell Trust.

Alex also has a passion for the oboe d'amore and cor. Notable performances include principal for Bach's B Minor Mass and St Matthew Passion. He still has a love for Britten's oboe music from his native Suffolk and his time at Aldeburgh Music.
