Biography
Canadian cellist Valerie Welbanks has recently completed the Master of Music in Performance course at the Royal Academy of Music in Philip Sheppard's class, graduating with distinction .
Valerie has given many chamber and solo recitals in various venues in Canada, the UK and South Africa. As a soloist, she has given several performances with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec and with the Sinfonia de Québec. In September 2008, Valerie appeared in the play La Suggia - Velvet and Steel, a production she initiated in collaboration with Bulgarian dramaturge Miryana Dimitrova.
Thanks to various scholarship awards, Valerie had the opportunity to work with master Janos Starker for three summers at the Toronto Summer Music Academy and at the Orford Arts Centre. A full scholarship allowed her to attend courses at the Banff Centre with her quartet.
