Biography
In October 2006, Emma performed with Icebreaker in LSO St Lukes (London) in the Steve Reich 60th birthday Festival. This was followed by concerts in Austria, Rotterdam and Seeland, Dartington Arts and Queen Elizabeth Hall, London (August & September 2006). In July 2005, with Icebreaker she gave the UK premier of David Glass' Music with Changing Parts at the Almeida Theatre, London. She has also performed with Icebreaker at The Lincoln Centre Festival, New York (July 2005), Het Musiktheater, Amsterdam (April 2005), York University (November 2004), Sadler's Wells Theatre with Random Dance (June 2004), in the CMN Big Noise Tour (Winter 2003 - 2004) and with Scottish Ballet (Autumn 2003).

Emma performed with [rout] in the BMIC Cutting Edge Tour at Leeds University, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Dartington Arts and Glasgow's Centre for Contemporary Art in autumn 2006. Past work includes performances in Oxford (January 2006), The Warehouse, London, (December 2005), and the Brighton Dome (December 2005). Other work with [rout] has included the installation performance of 'Vauxhall Pleasure' at Tate Britain (August 2004), the Bmic Cutting Edge Series & UK Tour (Autumn 2002), and further collaborations with composer Paul Whitty.

With Black Hair Emma performed at the York Late Music Festival (June 2006) and the Aarhus Festival, Denmark (May 2006). She also performed with them at the York Late Music Festival in March 2005.

Emma often works collaboratively with composers, choreographers, video artists and with artists in other media and she is particularly interested in creating music through these routes.

Emma founded and runs Talisman with composer Geoff Hannan, devising performances working with composers and theatre-makers in new, adventurous and often multi-media pieces in unusual places such as Camphill Communities for mentally handicapped people, at Jodrell Bank Observatory Planetarium and Chetham's School of Music, at the Woodhorn Colliery, Ashington, and at Whitehaven Sports Centre. With Talisman, Emma directed and performed a concert in Bmic's Cutting Edge Series at The Warehouse, London (October 2003).

Emma has also worked on numerous recordings, appearing on Icebreaker's Cranial Pavement and [rout]'s ONE in music by Paul Whitty, Paul Newland and Sam Hayden. She has also been booked for Moloko, Feeder and Blue Merle and Funeral for a Friend session by Audrey Riley.

Emma has presented many education workshops including Composition workshops at Oxford Brookes University, Sussex University, York University and Dartington College of Arts with Black Hair, [rout] and Icebreaker.

Emma also works part-time as Projects and Development Manager for the British Music Information Centre as producer of the Cutting Edge Tour and Workshops.

Emma teaches violin and piano privately and at St Michael's Steiner School, Wandsworth.

Emma's orchestral work also includes Icebreaker (electric violin), [rout] (electric/acoustic violin) and Black Hair (acoustic violin).

Education
Emma's graduate studies took place at University of York: MA in Music, composition & performance (1997 -98). University of Northumbria: PGDip (dist.) in Arts Management (1994 - 95). University of Manchester: BMus Hons (2:1), (1991 - 94).

Teachers: Nicola LeFanu (composition) and Ronnie Birks, Martin Hughes and Mieko Kanno (performance).
