The Galos Piano Trio has been performing together since 2012. The members met in various settings of their widespread musical lives; James Longford (piano) and Felicity Broome-Skelton (volin) were in the Isle of Wight Youth Orchestra together and, having gone separate ways for their individual study and careers they reconnected to continue their musical partnership. The two perform as a duo regularly but have more fully realised their musical ambitions since forming the Galos Piano Trio with the wonderful cellist Heidi Parsons.
Felicity, Heidi, and James all lead busy freelance lives performing with many and various groups and orchestras as well as giving recitals together across the UK.
Felicity Broome-Skelton performs in a wide variety of genres, such as opera, Baroque chamber music and musicals. Recent career highlights have included Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds tour, performances at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London with the Feinstein Ensemble, and concerts with the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera. During her undergraduate studies Felicity was the recipient of prizes two years in succession for outstanding performance, having gained the highest recital grades. She completed her Masters in performance at Trinity College of Music. Since 2013 She and James have been selected classical artists for P&O and Cunard cruises where they have a unique opportunity to perform to audiences from around the world.
James Longford studied piano and organ at the Royal College of Music, where he won the Tagore Gold Medal. He works as a freelance pianist for the Royal Opera House, the Royal Ballet, English National Opera, Southbank Sinfonia, the Opera Group, London Concert Choir, Aldeburgh Music, Whitehall Choir, Bregenzer Festpiele and Schauspiel Köln amongst others. James formed the longfordbrown piano duo over 10 years ago with New Zealand/British pianist Lindy Tennent-Brown; they are laureates of several international competitions, and were placed in the top nine piano duos in the world at the 2008 Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition in Miami. They hold an enviable reputation for innovative programming and thrilling performances.
Heidi Parsons completed both her bachelors and post-graduate training at the Royal Academy of Music where she was awarded the Suggia scholarship and the Leverhulme orchestral fellowship. She has recently performed at the Purcell Room, the Royal Festival Hall, and live on BBC Radio 3. Heidi made her solo debut at the Cheltenham Festival in 2008 with a performance of Steve Reich's Cello Counterpoint. Heidi is passionate about music education and is a founding member of 'Painting Music', a group with whom she works on introducing sound to children with colour and gesture. The ensemble focusses on working with special needs children, particularly those with autism.
We have loved our sea faring careers as guest classical artists on some of the world's most prestigious cruise liners but are keen to share our musical discoveries with more audiences at home in the UK. We play music that we love and are particularly passionate about keeping great British music alive and exploring the work of often neglected women composers. The Trio will be performing in venues across the UK in 2014; details can be found on our website www.galos-trio.com.
