  MARIANNE BROWN (TYLER)  (Cello, Cello Electric)» 

Marianne studied the cello at The Royal Academy of Music, Royal Northern College of Music and Liszt Academy in Budapest, Hungary. In addition to her work as a professional cellist and teacher Marianne is a member of staff at Middlesex University North London where her work includes ensemble directing, string coaching, cello teaching the design and implementation of string workshops for composition students and regular lectures in arts management and other areas of the BA music course. As part of her work at the University Marianne is enrolled as an MPhil student researching into music education, cello teaching and arts management and is working towards PhD registration in December 2009.

Marianne currently works at ResCen Performing Arts Research Centre at Middlesex University as Part Time Research Coordinator, organising and coordinating performing arts research events and projects. Following her postgraduate studies for the Masters in Cultural Management at City University, Marianne has worked in a variety of music and arts management settings both in community and professional environments including StreetWise Opera, IAMA and The Alexandra String Quartet.

Marianne is a founder member of the Alexandra String Quartet who have been working together since 1990, when they first met at the Royal Academy of Music. They have given recitals, been booked for recording sessions, and also play for weddings, functions and present educational workshops. For 4 years they have had a residency in the Victoria & Albert Museum, playing for the Late View Evening events and have performed at a variety of interesting and dynamic venues including at the Royal Academy of Arts Annual Dinner and at the famous Ivy Restaurant and for many events at The British Telecom Tower.

Marianne has also worked with the Pigeon Quartet at various venues including the Komedia Theatre, Brighton, and Troubadour Café, Earls Court and Pizza on the Park, Hyde Park (2000) specializing in performing music for new music theatre projects and jazz. She has worked on a series of electro-acoustic concerts called Landscape with composer Alfred Knittel directed by poet Endre Szkarosi. She also gave performances in the Budapest Autumn Festival at the Almassi Cultural Centre, Budapest, and in the Polonia Express Festival at the Palace of Fine Art, Budapest (1997). In addition to this she was inspired by the work of composer Sari Laszlo and worked with him along with the actors of the Katona Jozef theatre for improvised performances in the late 1990s. As well as her fine acoustic cello made by the prize winning British luthier Tony Padday (1999) Marianne works with a Yamaha electric cello for her improvisation, jazz and electric cello performances.

Marianne has given a number of solo performances in many venues in the UK, France and Eastern Europe including a tour of France performing Vivaldi cello concertos with the Bratislava Chamber Orchestra in the late 1990s. More Recent London recital venues include Burgh House and Lauderdale House. Marianne's studio work includes sessions for Radio 4 Smash Hits; Star for a Night on LWT. She has also recorded and appeared in a new Stephen Poliakoff BBC drama 'Friends and Crocodiles' (broadcast in 2005).

Marianne's orchestral work also includes Welsh National Opera (no. 3 trial), Hallé (extra list), Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra, Midlands Symphony Orchestra, Bratislava Chamber Orchestra, European Chamber Opera, Alberni Chamber Orchestra, Vivaldi Concertante, Stowe Opera, Victoria and Albert Museum, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital Arts and the Royal Acadmey of Arts.

Education
Marianne's graduate studies took place at Royal Academy of Music (1990 - 1994, Professional Certificate in Performance with Honours & LRAM), Royal Northern College of Music (1994 - 1995, Postgraduate Diploma in Performance), the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest (1995 - 1997), City University London (2006, Postgraduate diploma with distinction in Cultural Management), City University London (2007, MA in cultural management). Current/Ongoing: MPhil/PhD Middlesex University 2009 - onwards.
