The Phoenix Concerto was written for and dedicated to Emily Pailthorpe, who premiered it at the International Double Reed Society Festival in Brimingham 2009 (Six Music Productions, www.sixmp.co.uk). Emily's performance of the concerto is with the ECO conducted by Benjamin Wallfisch. Emily's performance of the Prelude from Tombeau de Couperin is with the pianist Julian Milford (Oboe Classics, No. CC2008).
Emily made her solo Wigmore Hall debut in June 2004 to mark the launch of her CD Though Lovers be Lost on the Oboe Classics label, and she is currently featured on the BBC Radio 4, Woman's Hour website. Emily makes regular appearances on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM with the Conchord Ensemble.

Why do women choose the musical instruments they do? A person in a good place to answer this question is Emily Pailthorpe. At 17 She became the youngest-ever winner of the Gillet International Oboe Competition and the American equivalent of the BBC Young Musician of the Year.
On Tuesday 8 June Emily Pailthorpe makes her Wigmore Hall debut recital (entitled War and Innocence) which launches her debut CD on the Oboe Classics label: Though Lovers be Lost, the proceeds of her concert are going to Save The Children.

The Florestan Trio concert is on 8 June as part of Spitalfield Festival and will be broadcast live on Radio 3 at 7.30pm. It includes the world preimere of Piano Trio 2 by Judith Weir, which has been written especially for the Trio.
In July 2003 she made a highly acclaimed Solo Debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra playing the Strauss Concerto.

Education
Emily was born in Frankfurt, Germany 1970. Emily's schooling took place at Purcell School of Music, London (1984 - 86) and Interlochen Arts Academy (Michigan, 1986 - 88) Emily's graduate studies took place at Yale University (1988 - 92, BA Distinction, inc one term at Oxford University on a Richter Fellowship). Julliard School (1992 - 95, Masters degree)
